The Hardware

Water: it’s important to always have clean water for your cat. If you’re using a bow, please have a quality stainless steel bowl or ceramic bowl. Some cats may develop chin allergies or acne from low quality stainless steel bowls.

Ideally you can buy a water fountain. You don’t need the most expensive one.

We tested many but the best one so far is the Petkit Eversweet Solo water fountain. The inside needs to be washed weekly, the filter too. The filter can be reused after a quick was. The maximum use of the filter is 1 month.

Dry Food: using the dry food dispenser is a great way to control their portion, but also have food available throughout the day and night. When the kitten is hungry at night it can go eat dry food without waking you up.

We recommend the Petkit Dual-Hopper. It has 2 compartments to mix 2 different brand of dry feed and a camera to monitor your cat.

Toilet:

For the toilet you can keep it simple or get an automatic toilet. For the simple toilet we have several top entry toilets from the brand Moderna and AniOne.

We recommend to clean the litter box daily. And to throw away the whole litter every 2 weeks and clean the inside with either bleach or Isobetadine soap and water. It’s important to keep the toilet clean as it’s often where bacteria can gather and develop.

You can also mist a bit of water mixed with isobetadine (yellow bottle) to disinfect after scooping.

If you want an automatic toilet, we have only tested the Petkit Pura MAX. It’s great and low maintenance. For 1 or 2 cats you can clean the inside once a month.
